Web Standards

The Web Standards I have used in building my website are the W3C standards. All of my pages validate in XHTML 1.0 and in CSS 2.1. I used these standards so my website would be professional, and so it would be usable in almost all browsers throughout the world. I also have used a PHP Page for my contact page. These standards ensure that there is no room for interpretation in my code, and that the webpage will appear on all screens the way I intended it to.

Usability

I wanted my website to be easily viewable for my older family members. The purpose of this website is so that my family that I don’t get to see often can see updated pictures and see my updates about what I have been up to. The “Don’t Make me Think,” text book describes that we should make sure all the pages are well organized. I have headers, and headings throughout every page of my website, and I used modularization to ensure every page is the same way to navigate through. The heirachy is clear.

I have also ensured that my navigation is at the top of the page throughout the website and that there are clear names for all the links so the user understands exactly where it will take them. I have also ensured that it is obvious which links are clickable. As well on my main pages I try to make all my text brief and to the point so anyone could just scan through my site.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The number one thing I have done on my website to ensure that it comes up on Google is use my name as much as I can on my website. Since the page is about me I am sure that most people looking for it will put in my name (which is not very common). This way my page is always the first to come up. The meta tags I have included in some of my pages also help.

ROI (Return on Investment)

I think that because I have followed all of the rules for making my website easily usable it will increase the enjoy ability for people visiting my site. If the site is full of interesting and good information, and that content is easy to find which I think it is, and then people will like the site and keep coming back to it.

Since I have followed all of the web standards on my website, people should not have problems uploading my site. As well they will see the site the way I intended them to see it making sure that they will enjoy it as much as I intended them to.

Finally making sure that my website will appear near the top of a search engine when my name is searched will make it easy for people to find my website. As well the site may even come up for people that are not necessarily looking for my site. If they see it and want to explore further this could attract new people to view my webpage.
